Americana UK "A Vodka For The Girl Who Changed My World" EP Review

Niall Quinn "A Vodka For The Girl Who Changed My World" (Self Released 2008)

Insert tall Irish striker jokes here

Niall Quinn crops up on MTV 2 quite often as a talented new song-writer and he follows up his recent album 'Under the Same Sky' with this 5 song EP (plus bonus video). Three of the songs on the EP are Quinn solo, and these are the strongest songs on offer. The recording quality of the two band efforts ('Silly Little Girl' and 'I'll Be Okay Without You') is not the strongest, taking away from the overall effect of the tracks.

Quinn is an interesting lyricist dealing with all the requisite singer song-writer woes. Vocally, his upper register is not a million miles away from Feargal Sharkey (Teenage Kicks cover anyone?).

'A Vodka for the Girl...' is an engaging and interesting listen, but it is possible that Quinn could do a lot better with a larger recording budget and more time taken to produce and arrange his songs.
